What is a Play?
A Play is one step inside a Playbook: a single named job, with what it reads, what it does and what it hands to the step after it.
Where it sits
YAMO's vocabulary is a ladder: a Playbook is the method, a Play is one step inside it, a Service is what other people run, an Instance is one customer's ongoing context against a Service, and a Run is one execution. A Connector is a tool a Playbook declares it needs, and a Connection is the access that satisfies it. A Reference file is a document a Playbook reads while it works.
Play is one rung of that ladder. The rung next to it is Service.
Why the word matters
One word for one thing. A Play is one step in the written method, and a Run is one occasion on which the whole method was carried out. A Play is not a small Run.
The longer answer
What is a Play? is the page for this one: where it sits, what it is confused with, and a worked example from a real template.
The rest of the ladder
What is a Service?
What a Service is on YAMO: the thing people run, which exists from the moment you start making it and passes through three stages before anyone sees it.What is an Instance?
What an Instance is on YAMO: one customer's ongoing context against a Service, holding their setup and their data separately from everybody else's.What is a Run?
What a Run is on YAMO: one execution of a Playbook from its trigger to its artifact, and the unit that is metered, receipted and charged for. What is a Connector?
What a Connector is on YAMO: the tool a Playbook declares that it needs, and what changes when you authorise one so that a run can reach it.What is a Connection?
What a Connection is on YAMO: the access you have authorised, which is what lets a run reach a tool a Playbook asked for, on your behalf, when it runs. What is a Reference file?
What a Reference file is on YAMO: a document a Playbook reads while it works, such as your house style, your offer, or the list you keep watch on.Pricing
How YAMO charges: you pay for the runs you make, and nothing for the ones you do not. What a run is, what it includes, and what publishing costs.Who it's for
The six kinds of expert YAMO is built for, and what changes when the method you already follow becomes a Service that somebody else can run.
